Kathmandu. CPN-UML leader and former chief whip Mahesh Bertaula has said that UML is not unaware of the common issue of millions of Nepalis in migration.
Delivering his congratulatory speech at the opening ceremony of the first session of the National Committee of Migrant Nepali Forum Europe, Bertaula said that the UML is committed to implementing the non-resident Nepali citizenship and the economic, social and cultural rights guaranteed by it in practice.
He emphasized that an environment should be created where non-resident Nepalis can fully enjoy the non-resident Nepali citizenship and the rights derived from it, which are guaranteed by the constitution.
Admitting that there was some delay in this matter while he was in the government, Bertaula said that some of the expectations of Nepali migrants have yet to be fulfilled because they had to leave the government unexpectedly while the process of building the necessary infrastructure was underway.
"We are not ignorant of addressing the real needs and wants of Nepalese immigrants," he said. But due to leaving the government, some work remained to be completed.
Meanwhile, he asked not to interpret the controversy within the UML as a 'storm in a teacup'.
He said that other office bearers and themselves cannot get away with all the blame on the chairman in the dispute within the party.
"We can't get away with putting all the blame for the conflict within the party on the president," said Bertaula.
