For the revision of the 'National Curriculum Format, 2076', the workshops held in all seven provinces suggested that the curriculum should be reduced, education should be made employment and entrepreneurship oriented, and artificial intelligence (AI) should be included in the curriculum along with new technologies.
In the workshop organized by Curriculum Development Center in all seven provinces for the purpose of revising the national curriculum, the participants emphasized that the current curriculum should be made timely, practical, useful and adapted to local needs.
In the discussion held in Koshi province, the participants suggested that education should be linked to local production and made self-employment and entrepreneurship oriented, and learning should be made student-centered, creative, experimental and technology-friendly.
The participants said that along with the expansion of technical and professional education, there is a need for education that preserves love of country, ethics and traditional language, script and culture. It has been suggested that schools and teachers should be given some responsibility for the construction and implementation of the curriculum by making it flexible.
In Madhes province, the topic of curriculum content and the need to reduce the teaching load has been raised prominently. The participants suggested that knowledge and skills related to tourism, agriculture and other local and potential areas should be included in the curriculum. The participants demand that knowledge related to AI should be included in the curriculum while modifying the content related to technology.
Similarly, moral and spiritual education, assessment through student participation in social work, teacher participation in curriculum development and teacher capacity development should be prioritized. It has been suggested that the students should be made proficient in their mother tongue, Nepali and English languages, and the theme of job creation through knowledge and skills should be included.
Similarly, it is mentioned that the principal should be developed as an educational leader rather than an administrator, the local level should be empowered to create local curriculum, psychosocial counseling should be provided for students and emphasis should be placed on parent education.
The need to promote entrepreneurship and employment-oriented education, compulsory parental education, moral education and local knowledge, skills and culture in Bagmati province has been pointed out.
The participants of Gandaki province said that education should be made practical, useful for life, skill oriented and employment oriented. It is suggested that independent and skilled manpower should be produced through pre-vocational, agricultural and technical education and local geography, history, art, culture and diversity should be included in the curriculum.
The participants of Lumbini Province have suggested that the curriculum should be reduced as the curriculum and content are high, a curriculum should be created to develop a sense of love for the country, and creativity should be developed through the use of AI. They said that instead of forcing the youth to migrate abroad, there is a need for a curriculum that enables them to be independent and create jobs in their own country.
In Karnali province, it has been emphasized that early childhood development and education should be brought into the school structure within a period of two years, monitoring and evaluation of the actual implementation of the curriculum should be made effective and the confusion created by frequent curriculum changes should be ended. The participants have given their opinion that teachers should be provided with necessary support from various sides.
Although the Ministry of Social Development Pabson Sudurpaschim has conducted a program in Dhangadhi in Sudurpaschim Province, details of the main suggestions obtained from the discussion have not been provided.
According to the ministerial decision of the Ministry of Education and Sports, with the aim of making the curriculum timely, practical, useful and effective, the National Curriculum Format Revision Working Group has collected suggestions and input from stakeholders from 28 districts of the seven provinces. Reaching different districts, teachers, students, principals, parents, experts, policy makers, local level and other stakeholders have been directly interacted with.
According to Mahendra Parajuli, Executive Director of Curriculum Development Center, suggestions will be collected from 28 districts in the first phase. After that, suggestions will be taken from all 77 education development and coordination units. Similarly, suggestions will be received through the center's website.
In the suggestions received from the workshops of the seven provinces, it is mentioned that the curriculum should be reduced by connecting the national curriculum format with local needs, employment, entrepreneurship, technology, ethics and life skills. Based on the suggestions received, the Curriculum Development Center has said that it will proceed with the necessary process for the revision of the National Curriculum Framework, 2076.
