15 August, Kathmandu. Shiv Giri of Dang Ghorahi left for duty at 7:30 on Wednesday morning as usual. Giri is working in the 216 MW Upper Trishuli Hydroelectric Project. He is a lab technician.
That day he was supposed to go to tunnel number 3. There was a landslide on the way. After that, his friend informed the office about the landslide and returned to his place of residence.
Before returning to the room, Giri got the news - there is a flood coming from above, inform others too.
As soon as he got the news, he and his friends rushed to their camp. They saved themselves. However, in front of his own eyes, he saw the scene of the flood sweeping away his vehicle, other friends, bridges, camps and structures.
"The flood came in front of us, overturning stones up to 50 meters high, destroying bridges and camps," recalls Giri, "we managed to survive by jumping towards the forest in two seconds."
