17 August, Kathmandu. Pediatricians have said that they are ready to provide medical services and child health support to flood-affected children. Paediatricians Nepal Pediatric Society (Nepas) issued a statement and pledged their support.
In this situation, it is necessary to pay special attention to the health and safety of infants, newborns, malnourished and chronically ill children, Nepas said.
During a humanitarian crisis, children are exposed to infections, malnutrition, injuries, unsafe water and sanitation, and separation from their families. The society said, "They can be at high risk of mental stress, neglect, violence and abuse."
NEPAS requests to give special priority to quality health services, medicine and nutrition, safe drinking water and sanitation, psychosocial support and protection of all children in relief and rehabilitation.
It is mentioned in the statement that pediatricians are always ready to provide necessary medical services, counseling and support related to child health to children in the affected areas.
More than 800 pediatricians are members of Nepal Pediatric Society.
