"We are trying to tighten the border and rescue from India, but the volume of requests for search shows that there is a need for widespread awareness at the community level and a solid policy of employment and security from the government," said coordinator Koirala.
He said that despite the open borders, poverty and lack of awareness, many lives have been saved by the monitoring of non-governmental organizations and the police administration, but the search and rehabilitation of hundreds of missing citizens is still a challenge.
Despite vigilance at the border, 10 people who were subjected to labor and sexual exploitation in India due to various temptations, misuse of social media and misinformation were rescued and returned to their country during the same period. Coordinator Koirala said that Maiti Nepal in coordination with the Indian police, embassy and local non-governmental organizations rescued them from different cities and villages in India.
In the last fiscal year, 18 applications were received at Maiti Nepal Nepalgunj office for search and rescue of missing relatives and 568 people were found. Similarly, Koirala informed that the status of 450 people is unknown.
According to him, the organization has been continuously providing legal assistance to bring those involved in human trafficking to justice and to bring justice to the victims. Last year, Maiti Nepal provided direct legal assistance to victims and victims in three cases against human trafficking and trafficking.
