Kathmandu. After the devastating flood that occurred on the 10th of August in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa, 1,331 dead bodies have been found so far, while 5,000 people are still missing.

Security agencies have intensified the search and rescue of the missing after the flood caused a large loss of property. According to the details released by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority on Saturday, 156 bodies were found in Rasuwa, 195 in Nuwakot, 67 in Dhading, 74 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 222 in Nawalparasi East, 219 in Nawalparasi Paschim and 360 in Chitwan.

According to Shanti Mahat, spokesperson of the authority, among those without contact, according to the updated information received from the Rasuwa District Administration Office, there are about 1,967 people, about 2,340 people from Nuwakot, 589 foreign nationals and 100 people including security personnel and employees. Since the number of missing persons is large, the search and rescue operation has been made more effective, the authority said.

So far, 13 thousand 101 people have been rescued from the campaign conducted in the flood-affected areas. According to the authority, the Nepali Army rescued 4 thousand 162 people, the Nepal Police 4 thousand 68 and the Armed Police Force jointly rescued 4 thousand 871 people. Similarly, so far 98 bodies have been identified and handed over to their relatives, the authority said. Spokesperson Mahat said that 5,929 injured and affected people have been treated so far after the flood.

316 people have received health care services in various hospitals, 3 thousand 297 people from the Nepali Army and 2 thousand 316 people from the Armed Police Force. Three thousand 982 people are taking safe shelter in 41 holding centers established in Kathmandu, Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading for flood affected people. It is said that the state agencies are carrying out relief and management work to meet their basic needs by keeping the displaced and affected people in a safe place.

After the flood in Bhotekoshi river caused huge human and material damage, security agencies, local level and various governmental and non-governmental agencies are continuously active in search, rescue, treatment and relief management. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the search and rescue of those without contact has been intensified.
