20 August, Kathmandu. Former state minister and industrialist Motilal Dugad has commented that the unnatural price increase of other daily consumables has been overshadowed by the discussion of petroleum products and gas.
Speaking at a program on 'Effects and Challenges on the Supply and Value Chain after Floods' organized in Kathmandu on Saturday, Dugad, who is also a food industry, said that the price of every spice used in the market, from biscuits to soap and in the kitchen, has gone up.
According to him, the price of essential ingredients such as turmeric, cardamom, pepper, coriander, cumin and chillies in the market has increased more than twice compared to the past.
He drew the attention of stakeholders to the fact that petroleum products and gas are sensitive commodities, but it is natural for everyone to pay attention to them, but the increase in the prices of other consumer goods has made life difficult for common people.
"Earlier, the price of turmeric, which was Rs 150 per kg, has now reached Rs 350. Similarly, the price of large cardamom which cost Rs 1,200 has reached Rs 2,800, he said, "Chilli powder, which is not necessary in cooking, which used to be available for Rs 150 to Rs 200 per kg, today its price has reached Rs 600."
He pointed out that efforts to control the supply of other food items and rising prices have been overshadowed by focusing only on the supply of gas.
Stating that he is running the food industry himself, he closely observes the reality of the market.
