Kathmandu. Even on the 10th day of the Trishuli flood, human losses have not been ascertained. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, as of Friday evening, 1,294 bodies have been recovered from various locations, while around 5,083 people are still missing.
On the day of the flood, 72 bodies were found till the evening, and ten days later, the number of dead bodies reached 1,294. During this period, along with search and rescue efforts in the flood-affected areas, the details of bodies and missing persons from river banks, settlements and hydroelectric project tunnels are continuously being added.
According to the latest information of the authority, the most bodies were found in Chitwan. 355 dead bodies have been found in Chitwan alone. After that, 221 bodies were found in Nawalparasi East, 212 in Nawalparasi West, 184 in Nuwakot, 140 in Rasuwa, 73 in Gorkha, 67 in Dhading and 35 in Tanahun.
Looking at the number of missing people, Nuwakot is at the forefront. According to the latest information received from the District Administration Office, about 2,340 people are without contact in Nuwakot alone. According to the authority, about 2,130 people and 583 foreign nationals are still without contact in Rasuwa.
In this way, ten days after the flood, bodies are being found and the search for the missing is going on in parallel. Especially since the search for people trapped in the hydroelectric project tunnel is still ongoing, it is seen that the number of human casualties may increase.
According to the authority, 13 thousand 95 people have been rescued so far. It contains details of the rescue of 4,157 people by the Nepali Army, 4,068 by the Nepal Police and 4,570 by the Armed Police Force. Among those rescued, 303 are foreign nationals.
The Nepali Army alone has flown 851 times. There have been 129 flights from the private sector in Kathmandu. Nepali security agencies are also involved in the rescue of foreign nationals trapped in tunnels and in the affected areas.
There are 37 holding centers in operation at various places in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading to house those displaced and affected by the flood. There are 46 thousand 27 people in that center.
According to the authority, 21 thousand 421 security personnel of Nepal Police, Nepal Army and Armed Police have been mobilized for search and rescue. Along with the rescue, the work of treating the injured, distributing relief, operating roads and bridges and moving the affected to a safe place is ongoing.
Floods have caused huge physical damage along with human losses. According to preliminary information, 7,570 private houses have been affected. 48 government structures have been damaged. It is reported that 18 schools and four health institutions were damaged.
The flood has completely damaged 55 kilometers of roads. 37 motorable bridges were damaged, of which 33 were completely damaged and four were partially damaged. The authority said that 68 suspension bridges were also damaged.
The government has provided Rs 1 crore for Rasuwa district, Rs 1 crore for Nuwakot and Rs 50 lakh for Dhading. It is mentioned in the details that an additional 135 million rupees has been allocated for the affected 15 local levels.
