Kathmandu. It has been seen that seven and a half thousand households were affected by the floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers on the 10th of August. According to the preliminary assessment conducted under the Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment, about 7,570 households have been affected and about 32,933 people have been affected, the government said.

Similarly, 48 government offices have been affected, 55 kilometers of roads, 37 motorable bridges and 68 suspension bridges have been damaged, according to the details updated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding voting today.

Likewise, about 1,806 hectares of agricultural land, 13 hydropower projects, one solar power project and two transmission lines have also been damaged. According to the assessment, 783 MW of hydropower production capacity has been affected.

In view of the scope and magnitude of the damage caused by this disaster, the ministry said that post-disaster needs assessment is also being conducted simultaneously to determine the full details of the damage and loss and the necessary costs for reconstruction and restoration.

The flood of Bhotekoshi river has caused massive loss of life, widespread displacement and extensive damage to houses, buildings, roads, bridges, hydropower projects and other important infrastructures in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and other districts connected to the river flow area. The search and rescue operation continues today for the eleventh day.

So far, 13,098 people have been rescued, including more than 300 foreign nationals. It is mentioned in the details that two foreign nationals, one Chinese and one American, were rescued from Dhunche and Colony only on Friday.

Similarly, on Friday, two Nepali citizens were rescued from Upper Trishuli-Three A tunnels and one Chinese citizen from Upper Trishuli-One tunnel today and one Nepali citizen was rescued alive from a house in Betravati. About 5,000 people are still missing, including 600 foreign nationals from 35 countries, according to the ministry.

So far, 1,344 dead bodies have been recovered from the affected area. On Friday, a dead body was recovered from the tunnel of Trishuli-Tin 'A' hydropower project. The Government of Nepal has said that it is mobilizing all available means and resources under its control for search, rescue and relief.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force are fully operational. In addition, disaster management agencies, provincial and local levels and other related agencies are also operational.

Foreign experts along with Nepali security personnel to rescue the tunnel

Currently, the tunnel rescue teams from India, China and the Republic of Korea are continuing their work in coordination with the Nepali Army. Rescue support equipment, drones, load carriers and other materials received from neighboring countries, friendly countries and the international community are being used in this work.

Likewise, a 15-member disaster relief and response team arrived from Australia on Friday, while an 11-member special Malaysian disaster relief and rescue team arrived from Malaysia this morning.

Additional equipment and technical manpower are being mobilized to continue search and rescue operations in the affected hydropower project. Under this, there are hydropower projects including Upper Trishuli-One, Upper Trishuli-Three 'A', Upper Trishuli-Three B, U-216 Haku, Chilime and Langtang.

Efforts to restore communication networks

The relevant agencies are actively working to restore road, electricity and telecommunication connections in the affected areas and deliver relief materials to the affected citizens on time. Additional materials and support received from the international community, partners and individuals are being mobilized effectively.

Similarly, the Nepali Army is working with a team of engineers to restore the Galchi-Trishuli road by constructing a temporary bridge over the Tandi river. Also, two tuins have been brought into operation, one each at Trishuli Indrenighat and Devighat.

Nepal has mobilized all resources and means under its control. However, in view of the magnitude and complexity of this disaster, Nepal has accepted that continuous international solidarity and cooperation is necessary.

So far, the closest neighbors, allies, international organizations and philanthropists are India, China, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Japan, United States of America, Qatar, Singapore, Republic of Korea, Australia, Germany, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Myanmar, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Norway, Israel, Canada, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, New Zealand, Denmark, Switzerland, Ireland, the Czech Republic, and the European Union, the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, the United Nations and its specialized agencies have provided various support.

Similarly, after completing the necessary forensic procedures, the process of temporary burial of the recovered bodies has been started. So that it would be easy to identify him later and hand over his body to the family for the last rites.

The immediate family members of the missing persons are requested to contact the Nepal Police Hospital, Maharajganj, Kathmandu or the nearest district police office or send their DNA profile in their country of residence for preparation.

Forensic teams from India, China, Singapore and South Korea along with Nepal Police and other relevant agencies have participated in DNA collection, analysis and identification of the deceased.

In addition to this, so far, the ministry has coordinated with the concerned countries and agencies as well as the relevant officials of the Nepal government and allowed and facilitated 24 flights carrying flood relief materials and rescue teams from friendly countries and international organizations.

Nepali citizens who are going to China

The ministry and the Nepali missions in China have said that they are closely coordinating with the Chinese authorities for the safe return of Nepali citizens who are affected by the floods and want to return to Nepal. On Friday, 155 Nepali citizens returned to Nepal through the Tatopani crossing, and today 127 Nepali citizens are expected to return to Nepal through the same crossing.
