18 August, Kathmandu. After the sudden increase in the flow of water in Shantighat river flowing through Sanni Triveni Rural Municipality of Kalikot, around one and a half hundred locals have moved to safer places.

A landslide occurred at the mouth of the river due to the rain that came from around 7 o'clock on Thursday evening. The river was flooded after the lake that was blocked by the landslide suddenly burst.

According to Mohan Bahadur KC, President of Sanni Triveni Rural Municipality, the flood has increased along the river bank from Balipata in Mumra to Shantighat through Gairakhada Lamabagar.

The rain had stopped in the area a while ago. He informed that it has started raining again.

According to him, there has been no human loss so far. "Details of physical damage have not been received, we will go to understand about it tomorrow," he said.

He told Online Khabar that after the flood, he immediately informed the locals and around 150 families moved to safe places.

The river used to flow through ward number 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 of Sanni Triveni rural municipality.

He said that the Shantighat River reaches about 200 meters below Mumra and merges with the Karnali River.

Janak Sharma, Spokesperson of District Administration Office, Kalikot, also said that the residents of the banks of the river have been alerted due to the increase in the flow of water in the Shantighat river.
