DNA samples of 68 people have been collected in five days as part of the DNA sample collection campaign conducted in Chitwan for the identification of bodies whose identities could not be revealed after the Bhotekoshi flood.
District Police Office Chitwan has prioritized DNA testing for identification of unidentifiable dead bodies. According to the details released by the police, samples of 7 men were collected on August 16.
On August 17, samples of 26 people including 2 women, 22 men and 2 Indian men were collected. Similarly, on August 18, samples of 22 people including 4 women, 14 men, 1 child and 3 Indian men were collected.
Samples of 7 people including 1 woman, 4 men and 1 Indian man were collected on Friday. DSP Chandrabhushan Yadav, Information Officer of District Police Office Chitwan informed that samples of 6 people including 2 women, 1 man and 3 children were collected today (Saturday).
Chitwan police said that the collection of DNA samples has been continued for the identification of the relatives who disappeared in the flood.
The sample collected in Chitwan has been sent to Bhairahawa branch of the National Forensic Science Laboratory under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
