16 August, Gorkha. It has been found that there is a black market in cooking gas in Gorkha district by hiding the opportunity of disaster and shortage. Among the gas dealers in the district, it has been revealed that Annapurna Suppliers at Bus Park steals and sells gas from sealed cylinders.
A team led by the Assistant Chief District Officer inspected the warehouse of the suppliers at Bahrkilo after the consumers complained that they were selling low weight gas. During the monitoring, it was found that the suppliers were stealing and selling the gas by breaking the cylinder seals, said Assistant Pragya Netra Prasad Sharma.
"There were no full cylinders in the warehouse, they were all sold," he said.
He said that the weight of a full cylinder should be at least 29 kg, but only 25 kg was found.
According to him, the plastic used to seal the cylinder was also found to be different from that of the company. "They have been stealing gas by breaking the seal placed by the company and sealing it with another plastic," said Assistant CDO Sharma, "and it has been found that consumers are being cheated by selling the same gas with a lower weight."
This development carries broader significance for local communities, public services, and policy implementation across Nepal.
