Kathmandu. The police have arrested four persons with 1 kg 910 grams of ganja which was brought into Nepal through post from Thailand.
A police team deputed from the Narcotics Control Bureau, branch office, Dillibazar, on August 9 conducted a suspicious check on the parcel sent from Thailand to Itahari via Goshwara Post Office, Dillibazar.
During the check, police said that 910 grams of Thai marijuana was recovered from the parcel. The police adopted the 'control delivery' method to reach the person receiving the parcel. At the same time, on August 16th, the police arrested two women who were carrying the parcel.
Those arrested are 19-year-old Jessica Tamang of Sunsari's Dharan sub-metropolitan city-20 and 25-year-old Tara Magar of Chhatharjorpati Rural Municipality-2 of Dhankuta.
According to the police, during a search of their house located in Dharan sub-metropolis-15, Milanpath, an additional 1 kg of Thai ganja was recovered.
During the investigation of the incident, the police also arrested two Indian citizens who came to take the marijuana. A joint team deployed from Narcotics Control Bureau Branch Office Biratnagar and Area Police Office Dharan arrested them on August 19 from Dharan-8.
Among the arrested Indian citizens are 24-year-old Sharon Sunil Tia from Kannur, Kerala, India and 22-year-old Amal R from Alpur. According to the police, 1 kg 910 grams of Thai ganja and four mobile phones were recovered from them.
Police Superintendent Durgaraj Regmi, spokesman of the Bureau, informed that further investigation is being conducted by the Dharan Area Police Office and the Narcotics Control Bureau on the four arrested persons.
