18 August, Kathmandu. The Trivi Teaching Hospital has prepared to bury the bodies found in the Bhotekoshi flood in Gokarna. Unidentified dead bodies are to be managed temporarily.

According to the Forensic Medicine Department of the Trivi Teaching Hospital, 177 bodies were brought to the hospital for management so far. Out of them, the post-mortem of 129 bodies has been completed. 85 bodies have been sent for temporary burial and 21 bodies have been identified and taken away by the family.

Head of Department Dr. According to Gopal Chaudhary, many bodies are in decomposed state because they were found after a long time. Even the faces of some bodies have been damaged beyond recognition. This has made both the identification and management of dead bodies complicated.

At present, the process of identification of unidentified dead bodies by scientific method has been started. For that, the DNA sample of the deceased is collected at the teaching hospital, while the sample of the possible relatives is being collected at the police hospital in Maharajgunj. The process of identifying the corpse by matching the DNA with the sample of a close blood relative has been adopted.

As the number of corpses exceeds the capacity of the hospital, there has also been a big problem in storage management. Although the teaching hospital has the capacity to hold around 150 bodies, more bodies have arrived.

As decomposed bodies cannot be kept in the open, the pressure has increased in the mortuary. Due to lack of space, some bodies had to be sent to Pashupati's Chisyan Home.

After the post-mortem has been completed but the body has not been identified, it has been sent to Gokarna for temporary management after the necessary DNA sample collection and legal procedures are completed.
